Working principle
The heavy phase is pumped with P1 from vessel B1 into the head of the extraction column. The light phase is pumped into the bottom part using P2. The same pumps can be used to feed the distillation plant after switching the valves HV01 and HV02.
The product from the extraction will flow into vessel B3 for the heavy phase and into vessel B4 for the light phase. A sampling valve is installed between the extraction and the product vessel.
The distillate will be collected in B2 while the bottom product is controlled by gravity overflow into vessel B5.
The pulsator below the extraction column is a modified diaphragm pump which moves the liquid back and forth. The volume per stroke can be adjusted manually. The frequency of strokes is also adjustable between 12 and 72 strokes per minute.
Evaporator with Controller The heating power of the heated stirrer is 800 W and is controlled with an external temperature controller using the temperature inside the evaporator. .
The stirrer speed of the magnetic stirrer can be adjusted manually. The reflux ratio is controlled automatically using a
funnel with a magnetic drive on top of the column which sends the distillate for a pre determined time back to the column and, for a different time, into the distillate collection vessel.
Data acquisition
For data acquisition the modular data acquisition box DW1 is used. It is connected to a PC by serial interface and transfers data into MS-Excel™ on a cyclic basis.
