Photron observes Fracture surface morphology during wheel scribing of a glass sheet

    Fracture surface morphology is one of the crucial topics in material science and industrial application. In this experiment, cracking generation and propagation in glass are observed by Photron high speed polarization camera system. Different from other high speed camera systems, besides the cracking generation, the detail of cracking propagation also be observed. Cracking propagation consists of stress concentration and relaxation. Photron camera system can observe the photoelasticity of the cracking glass by the birefringence phase difference distributions around internal cracks in the glass. The camera system allows this setup observes the cracking surface and propagation under difference applied force.
